The principles of ethics and social responsibility are part of the spirit that inspires Biofarma Group's work. It is with this spirit that the Group has been supporting the Madagascar Project since 2016, created with the aim of providing the necessary medicines and healthcare to ensure the treatment and survival of local children and families.
Over the years, the project has taken shape with the support of two local organisations: the Fanday Soa Association and the Vezo Hospital in Andavadoaka.
Fanday Soa, a Malagasy name that literally means 'the beautiful things we take with us to give to others', is the association that develops health projects with the specific intention of offering concrete and lasting help to the population of isolated villages in the south-west of Madagascar.
In September 2022, the team led by Drs. Michele Sari and Joelson Jean Baptiste began their operational mission at the Public Health Centre in the village of Anakao. The Biofarma Group's financial support enabled the project to develop and, in particular, to launch a health training programme for local workers.
The activities that have been carried out by the Association in the last period have been numerous and of great importance. In fact, in the last three months, it has been possible to carry out 2,875 visits and to continue the fundamental activity of maternity support, with the assistance of 38 deliveries and the provision of 276 ultrasound scans during pregnancy. In addition, it was possible to hospitalise 9 patients, also handling delicate situations, such as children suffering from serious cases of malaria and tuberculosis, or conditions requiring complex medication. Healthcare training of new staff also continued, involving 12 professionals including nurses and midwives in the last period.
The Biofarma Group's support for the hospital in Vezo, on the other hand, has seen a strong commitment to making up for the lack of essential medicines for patient care, such as clindamycin hydrochloride, metformin, itraconazole and basic medicines, which the Group's employees are able to deliver directly to the site each year, joining the many international volunteers.
"Biofarma for a Smile" is the company's volunteering project that allows employees to actively participate in activities that support the Vezo Hospital (mainly in the production of galenic preparations) and the oral hygiene education project promoted by the Fanday Soa Association.
The important results achieved and the numerous initiatives carried out confirm year after year the enormous value of the Madagascar Project, which expresses in a real and tangible way all those principles of solidarity, inclusion and sharing, education and health culture that are pillars of Biofarma Group's identity.
